Lorente´s Electrostatic generator for high voltages. Patent ( US and UE ) for sale or license. Tenders welcome. glorente@ind.uned.es Well fit for science and education. International awards at Geneve and Brussels.
Main applications
Very suitable for electrostatic experiments and demos at laboratory. Prototypes made and tested provide voltages in the range of 30-50 KV with currents in the range of microampere, enough for many classical experiments. Larger voltages could be obtained with larger sizes and/or stacking many units.
No human risk in the mentioned range of voltage and current.
New development may open door to applications in other fields like X-ray, particle accelerators, gas tubes excitation, etc.
In the Science Museums
This generator may be of great utility in interactive and participative devices currently present in Science Houses and Museums.
Some interactive modules for demo using this generator exposed permanently in the "Museo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología de Madrid, Spain. (http://www.mnct.mcu.es/).
Other projects in course.
Advantages
Due to its simplicity in design, Lorente´s Generator is not exposed to maladjustments or failures. Every operator knows the difficulty of making the "mise au point" of some classical electrostatic machines.
The dependence of humidity is lower than in other ones in the market.
Beeing of simple design, the cost of manufacturing may be lowered, in large series.
Description
It consists (see figure) of four equal cylinders or rollers, with their axes parallel to each other and always in contact with the colateral ones by mean of springs. All the axes are in the same plane . Rollers are able to rotate in steady mutual contact without sliding. The two external rollers are metallic and the two inner ones are made of suitable dissimilar dielectric materials. For my models I selected teflon and nylon respectively.
Operation
For operation a driving force is applied to one of the rollers, either by hand or with a motor. Becose of the close contact this one drive the colateral one or colateral ones until all rotate.
In the line of contact betwen the teflon and the nylon rollers the former receives electrons from the later. Both rollers dielectric surfaces become charged albeit with electric charges of opposite signs.
As teflon and nylon are insulators charges remain where created and hence they do not diffuse into the bulk When charges touch the outer metallic cylinders they migrate to them and from them, thorugh metallic bearings into the external terminals of the correponding positive and negative signs.
Prototypes.
Several
units are been made and tested. With diameters 10 cm and 5 cm respectively.
